Jingzhou has a total land area of 1,409,300hectares, a small land with dense population in China. According to the firstrural census, the land used for agriculture is 727,700 hectares, 51.6% of thetotal area. Among the agricultural land, farming land takes 82.3%, 1.4 mu perperson on average (1 mu ≈666.7 square meters), with aquaculture area of 8.0%,forestry of 8.1%, and garden of1.6%. The soil ofthe region is made up of the sediments sent by the rivers in recent ages andformed in Cenozoic Quaternary, including rice soil, moisture soil and yellowbrown soil, which are thick and rich for growing multi farming plants.
